A former Worcester Sixth Form student says being awarded a prestigious Academic Scholarship is a great reward for the effort she’s putting into her university studies.

Tia Lippitt, now in the third year of her Psychology degree at the University of Worcester, was awarded £1,000 after receiving A grades all through her exams and assignments in the last year.

“I’m very thankful for this award and the recognition of my effort,” said Tia. “It feels rewarding to be acknowledged while studying a course I am really interested in and enjoy.”

Tia, who chose to study at the University of Worcester because of its strong Psychology programme, said the award is her proudest accomplishment so far.

She said: “My biggest challenge at university has been managing part-time work, volunteering, and my university studies. Overcoming this has taught me resilience and organisation, which will be helpful in my future career.”

Professor Sally Moyle, Deputy Vice Chancellor Academic at the University, said:

“We are incredibly proud of the students who have received academic scholarships.”

The scholarships and prizes are made possible thanks to generous philanthropists, including the University’s distinguished Honorary Fellows, local employers, and many successful alumni.

University staff have also been fundraising for scholarship and hardship funds as part of the University’s two-year Anniversaries Campaign, which marks 20 years since gaining full university status in 2005 and 80 years since its founding as an emergency teacher training college in 1946.

Professor Moyle added: “These awards not only provide financial support and encouragement to deserving students but also demonstrate to potential employers the outstanding achievements of our student community.”
