Returning to university after taking a break from study can cause students to experience academic, financial, and social difficulties. We want to make your transition back to our student community as easy as possible!

Whether you're returning due to changing your course, coming back after a period of absence, returning after a year abroad or coming back after maternity leave, our Firstpoint Team, Programme Advisory Service and your Personal Academic Tutor are here to help.

Programme Advisory Service

Our Programme Advisory Service is available Monday to Friday to assist with the planning and registration of your study. 

Our Programme Advisors can assist with:

  • Planning selections of modules
  • Exploring the implications of changing subject or pathway on the BA/BSc programme
  • Discussing a possible course transfer (e.g. ITE to BA/BSc)
  • General enquiries about the Taught Courses Regulatory Framework

Student Finance

If you are returning to study after deferring your course you may need to reapply for student finance. For more information about Student Finance you can view our Money Advice Service webpages.

Social events for those returning to study

As a returning student it can be useful to create new friendships and re-establish previous friendships with course-mates. Our Welcome Festival 2023 events are open to all returning students and are an excellent opportunity to meet new people.

 

Returning after changing course

If you are returning to study after changing course, you will be automatically invited to register in August along with other students.

Many courses have shared modules and it might be easier to stay in contact with friends than you expect. Talk to staff on your new course as well as your existing one if you have any academic concerns. Our Programme Advisory Service is available Monday to Friday to assist with the planning and registration of your study and you can ask any questions you might have about transferring credits or prior learning.

It’s important to understand the support available to you from your Personal Academic Tutor or Firstpoint services, who can offer help with wellbeing. The Students’ Union has some amazing social activities, including clubs, societies and volunteering opportunities that can help you meet new people. For more information about Student Finance you can view our Money Advice Service webpages.

Returning after a temporary withdrawal from study

If you are returning to study after taking some time out of your course, you will be automatically invited to register in August along with other students.

Returning to study after a break can be challenging. The fact that some of your friends may have left university and settling back in to academic study can be a worry. Returning after a year abroad

If you are returning from a year abroad, you will be automatically invited to register in August along with other students

Returning to Worcester after a year abroad can be exciting, but there can be some challenges. Adjusting to the culture back home, the fact that some of your friends may have left university and reintegrating from an academic perspective may take a bit of time to get used to. This is totally normal. The Students’ Union has some amazing social activities, including clubs, societies and volunteering  opportunities that can help you meet new people.
