The experiences you gain outside the classroom can be just as valuable as those within it. Through volunteering, leadership opportunities, societies, sustainability initiatives and international experiences, you can build confidence, develop new skills and make connections that support your future ambitions

Whether you want to lead a project, represent your fellow students, make a difference in the community or explore the world, there are plenty of ways to get involved and make the most of your time at Worcester.

Get involved in student life

There are many ways to contribute to life at Worcester beyond your studies.

The Students' Union offers opportunities to represent students, organise events, support local communities and take part in activities that help shape the student experience.

Become a course representative

Help shape your course and represent the views of your fellow students.

Course Representatives work closely with academic staff to share feedback, celebrate what's working well and identify opportunities for improvement. It's a chance to influence the student experience, contribute to positive change and gain first-hand experience of working with staff and decision-makers across the University.

Sports clubs and societies

Turn your interests into experience that goes beyond your degree.

Joining a sports club or society is a great way to meet new people and become part of Worcester's campus community. If you're looking for more responsibility, you can join a committee, adopt a society in need of new leadership or create your own group.

Leading a club or society gives you hands-on experience in managing events, organising activities, working with budgets and motivating a team. It's a great way to develop practical skills and demonstrate leadership experience to future employers.

SU support crew

Become part of the community that helps Worcester students feel welcome, connected and supported.

As an SU Support Crew member, you'll support major student events throughout the year, helping to create the experiences that bring our campus community to life. Along the way, you'll meet new people, build lasting connections and play an active role in student life at Worcester.

Lead a volunteering project

Have an idea that could make a difference?

Student-led volunteering projects give you the opportunity to turn your ideas into action. Whether you're supporting your local community, raising awareness of an important issue or creating new opportunities for students, you'll develop leadership, project management and teamwork skills while making a positive impact.

Raise and Give (RAG)

Develop your fundraising, event management and communication skills while supporting causes that matter to you.

RAG gives students the opportunity to organise events, raise money for charities and work as part of a team to create memorable experiences for the University community. It's a great way to gain practical experience while making a difference.

Student council and student voice

Representing students is a powerful way to influence change and develop professional skills.

As part of Student Council, you'll help shape Students' Union priorities, contribute to important discussions and represent the interests of students across the University. You'll gain valuable experience in leadership, decision-making, teamwork and public speaking.

Get involved with sustainability projects

Worcester is committed to creating a more sustainable future, and students play an important role in making that happen.

Whether you're passionate about conservation, climate action, ethical consumption or community projects, there are opportunities to develop new skills, contribute to meaningful change and gain valuable experience while supporting sustainability initiatives on campus and beyond.

Student sustainability hub

Turn your passion for sustainability into practical action.

Get involved in projects that create positive change across the University and wider community. Opportunities range from supporting environmental campaigns and sustainable living initiatives to developing your own ideas with professional guidance and support.

You can contribute to projects that make a real difference, gain recognised sustainability training and work alongside students, staff, local organisations and community groups. Students also help create content for sustainability platform Susthingsout, connecting sustainability issues to student life, study and the wider world.

During Go Green Week, students work with local schools and community organisations on a range of sustainability activities, helping raise awareness of environmental issues and encourage positive change.

Campus conservation crew

Connect with nature and help enhance biodiversity on campus.

The Campus Conservation Crew brings together students, staff and local residents to support wildlife and conservation projects across our campuses.

Activities change throughout the year and may include habitat creation, wildlife surveys, planting projects and nature-focused workshops. Popular events have included terrarium-making workshops and bird drawing sessions, which provide a creative way to learn about nature while supporting mental wellbeing.

Whether you're interested in conservation, want to spend more time outdoors or simply enjoy trying something different, the Campus Conservation Crew offers a welcoming way to learn new skills, meet like-minded people and make a positive contribution to the local environment.

Why not study aborad?

Broaden your horizons through international study opportunities.

Whether you choose to study abroad for a year, a semester or a short summer programme, you'll gain experience of living and learning in a different country. These experiences can help you develop independence, build confidence and see your subject from a new perspective.

Studying abroad also gives you the opportunity to meet people from different cultures, explore new ways of thinking and gain international experience that can help you stand out to employers.

Become a Student Wellbeing Champion

Student Wellbeing Champions work alongside the University's Student Support and Wellbeing Service to help students feel connected, supported and informed. They organise wellbeing activities, support campaigns and events, and help raise awareness of the services available across the University.

From hosting social groups such as Fancy a Cuppa? to creating online content and supporting wellbeing initiatives, Student Wellbeing Champions play an important role in helping students thrive during their time at Worcester.

The role also offers valuable experience in areas such as communication, teamwork, event planning, student support and digital content creation. It's a great opportunity to make a positive difference while developing skills and experience that can support your future career.

Helping you succeed

The opportunities you choose outside your course can be just as valuable as those within it. Whether you decide to volunteer, lead a project, represent your fellow students, champion sustainability or study abroad, you'll have the chance to build skills, confidence and experiences that stay with you long after graduation.
