Dudley Student Stands Out with Prestigious Academic Scholarship

A student from Dudley has been recognised for excellence in his studies with a prestigious Academic Scholarship award.

20-year-old Benjamin Harper, a third-year Business Management student at the University of Worcester received his £1,000 award at a recent ceremony celebrating student achievement.

Benjamin, from Wall Heath, said: “This is the second time I have received this award, and it means everything to me that my hard work and dedication to my degree is being recognised and is paying off.”

He added that the financial part of the award will make a difference to him: “As a current placement student, this prize will help cover some of the costs of working full time as well as providing me with a cushion when I return to university after my placement.”

Benjamin has already put himself in a strong position for when the time comes to start his career. He said: “Worcester has one of the best figures for students finding jobs when they finish university, which as a student who is very keen to get into the workplace, this was very attractive to me.”

Reflecting on his award, Benjamin said: “I hope to act as a role model to show future university students what’s possible when you put a lot of effort into your degree. It brings not only short-term success but also sets you apart from the crowd in the future.”

Professor Sally Moyle, Deputy Vice Chancellor Academic at the University, said:

“We are incredibly proud of the students who have received academic scholarships.”

The scholarships and prizes are made possible thanks to generous philanthropists, including the University’s distinguished Honorary Fellows, local employers, and many successful alumni.

University staff have also been fundraising for scholarship and hardship funds as part of the University’s two-year Anniversaries Campaign, which marks 20 years since gaining full university status in 2005 and 80 years since its founding as an emergency teacher training college in 1946.

Professor Moyle added: “These awards not only provide financial support and encouragement to deserving students but also demonstrate to potential employers the outstanding achievements of our student community.”
