Jake Butler
A Law student has been rewarded for his success before arriving at university with a prestigious Academic Scholarship award
Jake Butler, from Redditch, was awarded £1,000 by the University of Worcester for academic excellence during his time studying at Heart of Worcestershire College.
“This prize will help massively,” said Jake. “With the cost of living being such a huge struggle for most people, moments like these really do offer some relief. The money will go towards purchasing the resources I need for my studies, but with the festive season around the corner, some will be used for celebrating with friends and family.”
Jake said his family was delighted to hear about his success. “It was as much a shock to them as it was to me,” he said. “They were extremely happy. As a mature student my spare time between work and studying is quite limited, so they were very much in the dark about how my studies were going!”
Jake was attracted to the University by its excellent graduate employment prospects and a recommendation from a friend.
He said: “As well as choosing Worcester for its availability of a part-time Law course, it was already my top choice. A former student at the Law School highlighted additional benefits, including the University’s outstanding graduate employability rate and its excellent resources.”
Professor Sally Moyle, Deputy Vice Chancellor (Academic) at the University, said: “We are incredibly proud of the students who have received academic scholarships.”
The scholarships are funded by generous philanthropists, including the University’s distinguished Honorary Fellows, local employers, and many successful graduates.
This year, staff at the University have also been raising funds for scholarship and hardship support as part of the University’s two-year Anniversaries Campaign, which marks 20 years since gaining full university status in 2005 and 80 years since its founding as an emergency teacher training college in 1946.
Professor Moyle added: “These awards demonstrate to potential employers the outstanding achievements of our students, while providing financial support and encouragement for those who’ve earned them.”
