Molly Haughton
A Devon student says being awarded a prestigious Academic Scholarship award has given them self-belief and determination.
Molly Haughton, Creative Writing and Illustration student at the University of Worcester, has been awarded £1, 000 for excellent academic achievement during their first year of studies.
“It has made me believe in my academic ability,” said Molly, 19, from Appledore. “I get very easily anxious about my assignments and if I’ve completed them to a good enough quality. I am a very determined person, so having my efforts recognised has definitely helped me realise that I don’t need to stress so much about my work.”
Molly has worked hard at university at both studying and personal projects.
“My biggest challenge has been finding the right balance,” she said. “I’ve gained a decent social media following so it has been tricky balancing my studies with my personal writing and art projects as well as social media content.”
Molly added: “My biggest success was when I got full marks on a creative writing assignment in my first year. I’m really proud of that piece of writing and I’m enjoying planning how to expand it into a full novel.”
Professor Sally Moyle, Deputy Vice Chancellor Academic at the University, said: “We are incredibly proud of the students who have received academic scholarships.”
The scholarships and prizes are supported by generous philanthropists, including the University’s distinguished Honorary Fellows, local employers and many successful graduates of the University.
Staff at the University have also been raising funds for scholarship and hardship support as part of the University’s two-year Anniversaries Campaign, celebrating 20 years since gaining full university status in 2005, and 80 years since being founded as an emergency teacher training college in 1946.
Professor Moyle said: “These awards demonstrate to potential employers the outstanding achievements of our students, while providing financial support and encouragement for those who’ve earned them.”
