Emily Bennett
Lichfield Law Student Wins Prestigious Academic Scholarship
A Staffordshire woman says her dreams of travel are a step closer, after she scooped a prestigious Academic Scholarship Award.
Emily Bennett, 21, who is in the third year of her Law degree at the University of Worcester, received £1,000 at a special ceremony celebrating academic excellence.
Emily, from Lichfield, said: “It is a great feeling to be recognised for something I have worked hard on, as my degree means a lot to me. It gives me the confidence and motivation to keep going.”
She added: “The prize will help me with my studies, my living expenses, and my general university costs. I plan to save some of it to put towards travelling when I finish my degree, because it has always been a dream of mine to travel before working full time.”
Emily has worked hard to achieve the award alongside her other commitments.
“Balancing my studies with my part-time job and cheerleading has definitely been challenging,” she said. “It has taught me a lot about time management and the importance of taking breaks when I need them.”
Emily added: “My family and friends were really proud of me, especially my parents, as they’ve been so supportive and encouraging throughout my time at university. They’re just glad to see that I’m doing really well in something I enjoy studying.”
Professor Sally Moyle, Deputy Vice Chancellor (Academic) at the University, said: “We are incredibly proud of the students who have received academic scholarships.”
The scholarships and prizes are supported by generous philanthropists, including the University’s distinguished Honorary Fellows, local employers, and many successful graduates.
Staff at the University have also been raising funds for scholarship and hardship support as part of the University’s two-year Anniversaries Campaign, celebrating 20 years since gaining full university status in 2005 and 80 years since being founded as an emergency teacher training college in 1946.
Professor Moyle added: “These awards demonstrate to potential employers the outstanding achievements of our students, while providing financial support and encouragement for those who’ve earned them.”
