A mature student from Worcester has been recognised for academic excellence with a prestigious scholarship for the second year running.

Phil Boggild, 40, has been awarded £1,000 for his outstanding performance during the second year of his Counselling Psychology course at the University of Worcester.

Phil said: “Deciding to pursue psychology as a career has been the best decision of my life. I’m showing myself and everyone around me that I’m capable of doing something important.”

Phil said that he spent much of his life doubting himself, but his success at university has given him a renewed sense of pride and confidence.

“This is my second scholarship award in a row, so I’m really proud of that,” he said.

Professor Sally Moyle, Deputy Vice Chancellor (Academic) at the University, said:
“We are incredibly proud of the students who have received academic scholarships.”

The scholarships and prizes are supported by generous philanthropists, including the University’s distinguished Honorary Fellows, local employers, and many successful graduates.

Staff at the University have also been raising funds for scholarship and hardship support as part of the University’s two-year Anniversaries Campaign, which celebrates 20 years since gaining full university status in 2005 and 80 years since its founding as an emergency teacher training college in 1946.

Professor Moyle added: “These awards demonstrate to potential employers the outstanding achievements of our students, while providing financial support and encouragement for those who’ve earned them.”
