Halesowen College

Three former Halesowen College students have been awarded prestigious Academic Scholarships for excellence in their university studies.

Bethany Lammas, Sophie Billington, and Olivia Connon were each awarded £1,000 by the University of Worcester at a ceremony celebrating academic excellence.

Third-year Digital Marketing student Bethany Lammas said: “Receiving this award means so much to me. It’s a reminder that hard work and dedication truly pay off.”

She added: “I plan to use the money to start my own small online business selling digital products to help build a strong foundation for my career in digital marketing.”

First-year Animation and Game Art student Sophie Billington said: “I received this for my academic achievements while I was in college; I was in disbelief when I saw I had won!”

Sophie continued: “I’m overjoyed as it’s such an achievement. My friends and family were extremely proud and gave me all their support.”

Olivia Connon said she also got her scholarship for her achievements during her time at college.

“This award means so much to me,” said the first-year Graphic Design, Advertising and Marketing student. “It proves to me that my work is worthy of more than a grade, pushing me to better myself.”

She added: “The prize will help me further my work with access to more equipment.”

Professor Sally Moyle, Deputy Vice Chancellor (Academic) at the University, said: “We are incredibly proud of the students who have received academic scholarships.”

The scholarships and prizes are funded by generous philanthropists, including the University’s distinguished Honorary Fellows, local employers, and many successful graduates.

This year, staff at the University have also been raising funds for scholarship and hardship support as part of the University’s two-year Anniversaries Campaign, which marks 20 years since gaining full university status in 2005 and 80 years since its founding as an emergency teacher training college in 1946.

Professor Moyle added: “These awards demonstrate to potential employers the outstanding achievements of our students, while providing financial support and encouragement for those who’ve earned them.”
