Suicide Prevention

The aim of the Suicide Prevention theme is to explore how and why systemic risk factors and drivers of suicide operate in local rural contexts and develop interventions to address this. Objectives are as follows:

  1. Understand how suicide drivers and risk factors interact with each other to produce vulnerability across priority groups.

  1. Draw on pre-existing local community assets to co-produced preventative interventions, adaptable to the specific needs of at-risk populations.

  1. Support the integration of local community-based assets and health and social care services across sectors (VCSE/Primary/Secondary Care).

This theme is co-led by Dr Maria Michail (University of Birmingham) and THRIVE Senior Research Fellow Dr Chris Poyner (University of Worcester).  The programme will work closely with local stakeholders and communities to co-produce preventative approaches that are responsive to local needs and experiences.
