Shanaz Ahmed
A graduate who developed an anti-bullying programme for schools has been recognised for her work in the inaugural University of Worcester Alumni Awards.
Shanaz Ahmed, who graduated from the University in 2015 with a Foundation Degree in Early Years, was named winner of the Social Impact in Education award for her work to promote inclusion in schools.
“I feel honoured and ecstatic winning this award,” she said. “Thank you for your belief in my work and recognising the impact, it has inspired me to continue making a positive difference through education and community engagement.”
Working with The King’s Trust, Shanaz developed the Gen Z Anti-Bulling Programme, a unique, school‑based initiative now being delivered across secondary schools in Birmingham. Through the programme and her consultancy work, she also supports schools through anti‑bullying and wellbeing workshops, women’s empowerment initiatives, and parent coaching. Shanaz also founded Bangladesh Community Regeneration Ltd., creating inclusive spaces that bring communities together and celebrate cultural identity.
Shanaz said her time at the University of Worcester played a vital role in preparing her for her career.
“The University provided a supportive and enriching environment that fostered critical thinking, cultural awareness, and a strong sense of community,” she said. “Through engaging coursework, practical experiences, and diverse interactions with peers and mentors, I developed valuable skills such as leadership, communication, and resilience.
“A particular highlight was the inspiring guidance of my tutor, who encouraged me to achieve beyond my perceived limits and instilled a passion for making a positive impact. Their support and encouragement motivated me to pursue my goals with confidence and determination; this ignited me to become a governor and volunteer my time to organisations making an impact.”
She added: “Overall, my experience at Worcester equipped me with the confidence, knowledge, and values needed to pursue my aspirations and make a meaningful difference in my community and beyond.”
The inaugural University of Worcester Alumni Awards celebrate graduates who are making an exceptional contribution in their professions and communities.
