A former officer of Worcester Students’ Union who has gone on to influence national education and social policy has been Highly Commended in the Social Impact for Education category at the University's inaugural Alumni Awards.

Meg Price, who studied BSc Sport and Exercise Science at the University from 2016 to 2019 before serving two years as a Students’ Union officer, was recognised for her contribution to education and public policy.

“I’m very proud to be highly commended for this award,” she said. “I’m conscious that Worcester produces incredible graduates every year who are working in schools, hospitals and other settings. I’ve achieved some cool things, but I think they deserve the recognition for delivering vital services for people every day.”

Following her graduation, Meg was elected as Vice President Education at Worcester Students’ Union, where she represented students and championed improvements to the student experience. She later went on to work for the National Union of Students as a Development Consultant before moving into a career focused on education and social policy research.

Today, Meg works on public opinion, education and social policy projects that help shape national conversations and decision-making. Her achievements include working with the Obesity Health Alliance to present research findings to special advisers at Number 10 on ideas for the Government’s 10-year health plan, as well as conducting research that influenced the design of the Lifelong Learning Entitlement.

Reflecting on her time at Worcester, Meg said the University gave her “the confidence to try new things out of my comfort zone” and sparked a lasting curiosity about how to improve people’s lives.

She said one of her proudest memories came during her time as a Students’ Union leader when she helped deliver Welcome Week during the Covid-19 pandemic.

“The team pulled together the most amazing Welcome Week event against the backdrop of the pandemic,” she said. “It made me proud to be part of an organisation and university partnership that valued social connection and community building alongside safety. It felt like being part of something very special.”

The inaugural University of Worcester Alumni Awards celebrate graduates who are making an outstanding contribution in their professions, communities and wider society.
