Luyao Wang
A University of Worcester graduate whose commitment to developing future talent and championing the values of diversity and social responsibility has been Highly Commended in the University’s inaugural Alumni Awards.
Luyao Wang, who studied a Bachelor in International Human Resources before completing a Master’s in Business Psychology at the University between 2019 and 2021, was recognised for the positive impact they continue to make through mentoring and supporting the next generation of professionals.
Luyao works as a Career Development Mentor for the business schools at Renmin University of China and Shanghai University of Finance and Economics, helping students prepare for the realities of the workplace and wider society.
Explaining the motivation behind this work, Luyao said: “This is my way of paying forward the care and support my teachers at Worcester once gave me. Perhaps this is the true essence of education. It lives not only in the classroom, but in everyday life.”
Luyao said the support from staff at Worcester played a significant role in shaping both their personal and professional development.
“When I look back, my years at Worcester were about so much more than earning a degree,” Luyao said. “The coursework was deeply practical, and even now, years into my career, I find myself relying on the frameworks, mindset and skills it gave me.”
Luyao said studying alongside a diverse international cohort was a highlight.
“Our postgraduate class brought together students from every corner of the world, from every continent, aged 20 to 50,” Luyao said. “I loved how one simple question could spark so many different answers and such rich discussions.”
Speaking about receiving a Highly Commended award in the Sustainability Changemaker category, Luyao said: “It is a great honour, and I will continue to work hard and strive for excellence in the future.”
