Student Scholarship Fund

A contribution to the University of Worcester scholarship fund is a gift with great impact that will resonate into the future.

Many of our supporters find the ability to help individuals to make the most of their potential is a very rewarding experience.

In addition to the monetary benefit, scholarships and prizes confer a sense of achievement and recognition and are valuable assets to a Graduates future CV. University scholarships are usually awarded for academic achievement. Prizes are smaller amounts of money and are awarded on the merit of achievement (academic, sporting or otherwise).

Access to Learning Fund

By donating to the University's Access to Learning Fund (also know as the Student Hardship Fund) you will be supporting those students who are in financial hardship and are finding it difficult to support themselves through their studies.

On average each year the University awards in the region of £300K - £350K in hardship payments. All awards are managed under the University's Hardship Fund Policy.

The Joel Richards Scholarship Fund

The Joel Richards Scholarship Fund will help students at the University of Worcester who are struggling to pay fees for courses and national qualifications in such fields as sports coaching, refereeing, tutoring and other valuable areas which support student and graduate employability.

You can set up a one-off payment to the University of Worcester via a bank transfer.  

To ensure that we can process your donation successfully, please complete and return our donation form to Sian Gould, Head of Development at s.gould@worc.ac.uk or send the form in the post to: Sian Gould, Head of Development, WB 110, University of Worcester, Henwick Grove, Worcester, WR2 6AJ. 

Please include a reference (up to 16 characters) which gives your name and the intended purpose of your gift, in the following format: NAME-DONATION.

Cheque

To ensure that we can process your donation successfully, please complete and return our donation form alongside the cheque. 

JustGiving

The University has registered with JustGiving so one-off and monthly donations can be made via our JustGiving account. The University receives 100% of the donations made using our JustGiving checkouts. You can also make your gift go further with Gift Aid. Where gift aid is applicable through this route JustGiving will administer the claim to HMRC and transfer the funds to the University. JustGiving will deduct a 5% administration fee from the gift aid amount that is paid across to the University for this.

Room and building naming opportunities

Leaving a legacy

If you already have a will and want to update it, you can make an official alteration to the existing will (called a ‘codicil’) or can make a new will. Legacies to the University of Worcester may be exempt from UK inheritance tax – please visit https://www.gov.uk/donating-to-charity/leaving-gifts-to-charity-in-your-will for further details.

Unrestricted legacy gifts, which benefit our students’ most urgent needs, are often chosen by donors. These gifts ensure that, whatever the future brings, we are in the best position to make a difference where we are needed most. If you do decide to add a wish or restrict your legacy, adding the following wording can help the University allocate your gift: “If these areas are fully funded or if they are no longer areas in which the University is actively involved, I wish that my gift be used in an area in need of funding that most closely equates to the said scholarship, research or department.”

Types of legacies include:

Residuary gifts

• This is a gift of all or part of the value of your estate, after debts, other legacies and liabilities have been met. This type of gift will keep up with inflation. You can specify a percentage share you wish to be given to the University of Worcester.

Monetary legacies

• This is a sum of money which you can arrange to be increased in line with inflation. This type of legacy is also known as a pecuniary gift. You can specify the amount of money you wish to be left to the University of Worcester.

A specific legacy

• This is a gift of something valuable like a property, piece of jewellery or stocks and shares.

A reversionary legacy

• This type of gift leaves your assets to a named beneficiary, such as your spouse or another dependent, for their lifetime. When they die, all or a specified proportion of the gift will revert to the University of Worcester.

Other assets

• You may also be able to nominate the University to be the beneficiary of a pension fund or life insurance policy. Please speak to your providers directly to nominate the University of Worcester.
