Members of MidSoc, the University of Worcester Midwifery Society, Rebecca Dyos, Jodie Bell, Carrigan Black, Jess Costigane, George Arnold and Meg Bourne have been working on a number of fundraising activities over the last nine months.

Activities included a raffle with prizes often aimed at supporting Midwifery students on placement, such as a pampering kit, and experiences that were donated by local companies, as well as a bake sale. The Society recently held a further final fundraiser on the International Day of the Midwife bringing together speakers from all different stages of the midwife journey to talk about how to keep well as a workforce.

They chose to raise funds for Libby Maes Little Angels, which supports the necessary medical equipment needed to look after babies on neonatal units across the Midlands, Petals, which provides specialist counselling after baby loss, and Becoming Families, a Worcestershire based charity providing pregnancy and postnatal services.

Jodie said: “We tried to select charities that operate in the different areas where we work so it would be supporting the families that we look after.

Rebecca, who is chair of the society, added: “We wanted to choose charities that weren’t so recognised - to draw attention to these ones that might be overlooked.”

Jess added: “You can go through the pregnancy journey and not go to these three services, but equally an experience, such as a child bereavement, can impact your life for all your life.”
