Our 4-year graduate entry MBChB medical degree will prepare you to become a compassionate, highly skilled doctor. The MBChB is equivalent to the MD (Doctor of Medicine) in some other countries.

Course overview

  • From your first weeks you’ll be working with patients in real settings: general practice, community hospitals, wards and simulated clinics.
  • You’ll study in small groups, taught by practising doctors using a ‘problem-based learning’ approach – to get you thinking like a doctor, sooner.
  • As an international applicant, you’ll graduate with a UK Primary Medical Qualification – making you eligible for registration with the General Medical Council (GMC) and the UK Foundation Programme, subject to meeting criteria.

Applying as a Canadian graduate

We welcome applications from Canadian graduates. Below is a guide to how your qualifications normally compare to our UK requirements.

Undergraduate degree

You’ll need a Canadian undergraduate degree (usually four years) with:

  • CGPA 3.3 / B+ / 75%

Or

  • An undergraduate degree (with CGPA 2.5 / C+ / 62%) plus a Master’s degree.

We also consider applicants with relevant professional experience alongside postgraduate study.

You can apply with a degree in any discipline. Many Canadian applicants come from biological sciences, psychology, biomedical science, kinesiology or health-related fields, but this is not essential.

High school (GCSE) requirements

You’ll need to provide evidence of English and Mathematics from high school. Below is how common Canadian qualifications compare to UK GCSEs.

GCSE English equivalents

A grade of C in Grade 11 or 12 English within the High School Diploma (where English is taken as a first language), from:

  • Alberta
  • Manitoba
  • New Brunswick – Anglophone system
  • Newfoundland and Labrador
  • Northwest Territories
  • Nova Scotia
  • Nunavut

British Columbia Certificate of Graduation:
C in Grade 11 or 12 English. Some certificates include a GPA, with GPA 3 = B and GPA 4 = A.

Ontario Secondary School Diploma:
At least Level 1 in OSSD / Ontario Academic Courses, or C in the Secondary School Graduation Diploma (DES).

Quebec Diplôme d'Études Collégiales (DEC):
Anglophone schools: English at 60%.
Francophone schools: English is taught as a second language and is not directly comparable to GCSE English.

Yukon Graduation Diploma:
At least C in Grade 11 or 12 English (minimum pass 50%).

GCSE Maths equivalent

Maths at 60%, with Grade 11 accepted.

Science requirements

If your undergraduate degree is not science-based, you’ll need:

  • Two science subjects at high school level (e.g. Biology, Chemistry or Physics).

A mark of 60% is usually considered equivalent. If you’re unsure, contact us and we can check your province’s grading system.

Get in touch

If you’re unsure whether your school qualifications meet the English or Maths requirement, our Admissions Team (admissions@worc.ac.uk) or International Team (international@worc.ac.uk) can check your transcript before you apply.

GAMSAT

Canadian applicants usually sit GAMSAT in March or September. We accept either sitting.

Key points:

  • We do not publish a set cut-off
  • Most shortlisted applicants hold a GAMSAT score above 50
  • Scores are valid for two years

If you’re preparing for the March GAMSAT, you can apply through UCAS as soon as results are released.

UCAS application

All applications go through UCAS, the UK’s central admissions system. You’ll apply for:

MBChB Graduate Entry – Course Code A101

You’ll submit:

  • Your degree transcript
  • GAMSAT (or UCAT) result
  • Personal statement
  • One academic reference

English language requirements

If you’re a Canadian national and your full education has been in English, you won’t need to take an additional English test.

If not, or if your studies were partly in a bilingual environment, we may ask for:

  • IELTS 7.0 overall, with 7.0 in speaking and at least 6.5 in all other components.

Licensing considerations

Our degree leads to a Primary Medical Qualification that is recognised by the GMC in the UK.

For applicants planning to practise in Canada:

  • You will need to meet the Medical Council of Canada requirements
  • This usually includes completing the UK Foundation Programme and sitting the MCCQE exams
  • Recognition routes can vary slightly by province

We can provide general guidance, but we recommend checking provincial regulations directly.

Fees and funding

For international students (including Canada), the Medicine MBChB the tuition fee for 2026/27 entry is £49,300 per year.

We recommend checking your eligibility for loans, grants or funding in your home country and exploring UK-based scholarship options too.
