Charlotte Broadbent
Charlotte Broadbent didn’t waste any time launching her career after university. After completing her Journalism and Media & Culture Joint Honours, she stepped straight into a full-time role as a Radio Producer at BBC Hereford & Worcester, where she now produces the station’s mid-morning show.
“It’s a three-hour radio show where we have stories from local people, touch on national stories, get reaction from experts, give people the weather, the travel, all that kind of stuff they need.”
Charlotte credits her course for giving her the practical skills and confidence to thrive in a fast-paced newsroom environment.
“The lecturers have years of experience working at newspapers, radio stations, and television. They taught me how to gather contacts, write copy, read the news, and edit audio - all skills I use daily in my job.”
The hands-on nature of the course was a key factor in her success.
“Some of our lectures mimicked working in a live newsroom, which was very, very helpful, especially if you want to go into something like radio.”
Charlotte also highlights the value of the University’s industry connections.
“The lecturers here have contacts with people in the business, people at local news outlets, so they can get you hooked up to start off with.”
Charlotte's advice to future students:
“If you’re considering studying journalism at Worcester, I’d say go for it. The course is practical, the support is great, and it really prepares you for the real world.”
