Green Impact Awards 2022

The Green Impact awards bring together students and staff in green campuses, curriculums and communities.

Congratulations and thank you to everyone who has supported sustainability at the University of Worcester this year! 


In July Dr Tim Jones, PVC Students, officiated over our annual awards ceremony where we distributed sixteen different sustainability awards under our Green Impact programme. 





These are the winners:-


Special Award

Special Award - Green Impact


  • Staff Sustainability Hero – Elena Lengthorn
  • Student Sustainability Hero – Gabija Švedaitė
  • Student Leadership Award – Megan Asbury
  • Community Action – Agnieszka Chorzepa
  • Innovation for Engagement - George Sherrard


All winners will be entered into SOS-UK’s National Special Awards which are announced later in the year.


Platinum Award

School of Science and the Environment

NUS Green Impact Platinum Award
  • Designed and installed a birdwatching for wellbeing information board in the Conservation Area at St John’s Campus, with input from RSPB
  • Hosted three guided birdwatching walks for staff and students
  • A talk will be given in October about birdwatching and how it is beneficial for wellbeing as part of a larger environmental sustainability event in the School

Flood Education Program

  • Amended an existing primary school flood education program to also fit GCSE and A-level curriculums
  • Delivered the programme to three local schools at primary, secondary, and college level
  • Gave students flood action plans to fill out and enter a competition to see how they would respond to a flood in their school




Gold Award

Gold Award - Green Impact

Climate Emergency Education

  • Organised a climate assembly and workshops for scouting leaders to learn climate education activities they can use with their groups

Security team

  • Encouraged behaviour change in staff at the University to improve energy efficiency

Move the World

  • Trained six teachers at a local primary school to pilot incorporating physical activity with education for sustainability in their work

Silver Award

Silver Award - Green Impact

City Campus Garden

  • Planned a variety of options to develop a community garden space at City Campus

WBL Widening Access

  • Made recommendations to WBS managers to better support students to take up work-based learning opportunities, which will be implemented in the next cycle

WBS Team

  • Surveyed Business and Computing students on their knowledge of sustainability, SDGs and climate change, and will amend the curriculum with this feedback for the next academic year


Bronze Award

Bronze Award - Green Impact

Facilities Apprentices

  • Organised collections of items for students moving out of Avon and Ledbury halls to donate to a local charity and a hostel

Chartwells Caterers

  • Spread the message about the Change Please social enterprise and its mission to help end homelessness around the world among staff and students

School of Allied Health and Community

  • Organised walks via the University Mile and the green spaces on campus for staff and students to promote wellbeing
