Industry Background

Prior to joining the University professional sport support staff in 2008, Marc worked in local government, the health sector and voluntary and commercial sector sport. Through the 1990s/2000s Marc proudly built, developed, then sold a chain of fitness clubs under the brand One on One Fitness Ltd, which gained the ISO 9002, Quality Assurance Accreditation (the first private club in the country to gain the kite mark).

In addition, Marc maintains a PT practice specialising in clients living with physically debilitating, degenerative conditions. His accrued experience enabled him to invent and build a prototype Para-Kettlebell Chair. The design was subsequently trialled by the GB Wheelchair Basketball squads, and GB Para Canoe Squad, and taken to market by Pullum Sports Ltd.

Scope of Role at the University

Marc is Director of Strength and Conditioning provision for all University of Worcester sport performance teams, scholarship athletes, Worcester Wolves Basketball BBL squad and Severn Stars Netball VNSL squad. He leads delivery support for academic lectures with practical sessions and is the lead S&C coach for the Talented Athlete Scholarship Scheme (TASS), and coaches S&C for various EIS athletes.

Marc regularly tutors fitness instruction courses/workshops at the University, and externally for NGBs. In 2019/20 the UKSCA Level 2 award will be brought online.

Internal Responsibilities:

In addition to the above, Marc manages the Arena S&C Suite, scheduling numerous work-based placements for undergraduate to postgraduate students, the most recent being Level 7 Masters students on yearlong exchange from Beijing Sports University (BSU).

Marc delivers CPD to S&C coaches and fitness staff preparing for UKSCA assessments, and offers strategic advice on S&C facility developments.

As contribution to the University of Worcester International Centre of Inclusive Sport and Exercise, Marc not only coaches world-class para athletes, but advises on all aspects of S&C and fitness within the University of Worcester Senior Physical Activity and Adapted Sport (SPAAS) Programme targeting local community engagement.
