Dr Rafael Rutkowski DBA
Completing his doctorate as a distance learner in Germany, Dr Rafael Rutkowski graduated with a DBA looking into the strategic implications of halal certification for the German chemical-pharmaceutical industry.
Based on an international comparison of leading halal certification systems, the study analysed religious, regulatory, operational, and strategic frameworks within the industrial context, aiming to systematically structure these diverse requirements and translate them into a practice-oriented implementation concept for companies.
Over time, it became clear to Dr Rutkowski that his dissertation is more than a purely academic contribution, “it has the potential to build bridges between different religious, economic, and regulatory systems. It was especially fascinating to observe that halal is increasingly perceived not only by Muslim consumers, but also by non-Muslims as a marker of quality and trust. It is precisely this complexity that makes the topic so fascinating.”
Reflecting on his time as a doctoral student, he said, “my time at the University of Worcester was a highly positive and rewarding experience. I felt consistently well supported throughout the programme. The structured organisation and reliable supervision provided clarity and confidence at every stage of the journey. Academically, I was able to deepen my expertise and further strengthen my analytical thinking.”
“Completing the DBA alongside my professional career was a particular challenge and required considerable discipline and perseverance. Without the support of my family, this journey would not have been possible – this dissertation is therefore dedicated to them.”
