Regional Employers Eager to Snap Up University Talent

UW Careers Fair Janey Robins

Held on campus by the University’s Business School, hundreds of students were able to meet representatives from companies based in the area to ask questions and find out about student and graduate employment opportunities.

Jack Woodward Spalding, fourth-year Accounting and Finance student, said: “The Careers Fair has been a great opportunity to meet employers and get a real sense of their company culture. The environment is great, and everyone is friendly, I’ve been able to speak to lots of different employers to see what they’re offering.”

Jack added: “As a student, I think the University of Worcester is fantastic for the way it focuses on employability. We’ve had sessions on our CVs and LinkedIn, and how we present our professional branding, and I’ve seen that help a lot of people getting their applications out for jobs. I think that leads to a much better employment rate for us after university.”

The Fair happened at an exciting time on campus, as staff and students eagerly await the results of the Times Higher Education University of the Year Award results. Worcester has been shortlisted for the award for the fourth time in a decade.

Kesceth, a former student at the University’s Business School, said: “Having studied here myself I know how much Worcester does for its students in terms of career progression, and at Severn Trent we’ve got the opportunities available for people who have these skills.”

Budding entrepreneurs were also able to access a range of start-up support available in the county, with free advice and information on pitching competitions and funding opportunities available.
