Research - Computing

Research within the Computing Department is wide ranging and is led by a number of key individuals.

Dr. Chris Bowers work bridges the two domains of Human-Computer Interaction and Computational Intelligence, hes interested in how users interact with systems that incorporate some measure of intelligence.

Dr. Joy Garfields work is focused on early phase requirements engineering along with business IS/IT alignment and systems modelling. Joy also has a keen research interests in information systems learning and teaching related issues, in particular curriculum development and enquiry-based learning

Dr. Paul Golzs work questions how technology can be used within the arts, particularly dance. The use of digital technologies within the arts is expanding rapidly, especially in the areas of audience engagement, work creation and increasing participation. Dialogue between technologists and artists may not be straightforward; Paul is working to facilitate this dialogue.

Dr. Joanne Kuzmas research interests include e-commerce, e-government, computer security, e-marketing and social media. Her latest work analyses how firms in various industries and countries use social media to enhance business operations, recruiting and marketing.

Dr. Colin Prices work focuses on applications of Virtual Worlds to education heritage and rehabilitation, and the theoretical relationships between virtual worlds and the real worlds they model. He is also researching in the field of complex dynamic systems and how students at school learn to programme.

Colleagues within the Computing Department benefit from regular opportunities to discuss their work. We also have strong collaborative links with Birmingham University, our Strategic Partner.
