Edd Moore has led multiple schools to national and international recognition for their environmental work.

Edd Moore, who graduated in 2005, has since led multiple schools to national and international recognition for their environmental work. He was also one of just 500 people to be named a Coronation Champion by the Queen Consort.

Now, Edd is publishing a book with Bloomsbury, titled ‘100 Ideas for Primary Teachers: Greener Schools’.

“I was speaking at a conference, and I was approached afterwards by a team who said they needed a book like this, and asked if I could write it,” Edd explained. “It’s aimed at teachers, trainees and senior school leaders, but it’ll also be useful for groups like Scouts and Guides.”

The book is designed to be a practical, time-saving resource for educators.

“As teachers, we can spend hours searching online to come up with a lesson which will be relevant and have an impact on our pupils,” Edd said. “The idea is that this is a book which a teacher can just pick up and have a ready-to-go idea for a valuable lesson.”

Edd, who was also named one of the Foundation for Environmental Education’s Teachers of the Year, explained a few of the ideas in his book.

“One idea is ‘nature journaling’,” he said. “Children may not know what’s growing around them, but they love the wildflowers, the insects and the trees, so there are instructions in how to lead a class in creating a book which children can take home and talk to their parents about.”

He said: “Another example is a lesson where children look at single-use plastic in the classroom and then write to the companies to ask them to look at what they can do to reduce it.”

100 Ideas for Primary Teachers: Greener School, is due to be available for purchase later this year.
