Dementia Education for my organisation and team

The Association for Dementia Studies team, led by Dr Shirley Evans, have a track record in providing consistently high-quality education, training and CPD opportunities.

We work from a position of evidence-based practice, bringing the latest and most up-to-date local, national and international evidence from research and best practice into our education. Our courses are mapped to the Dementia Training Standards Framework so you can demonstrate that your staff have received appropriate training.

As a multidisciplinary team from a variety of professions we can create a bespoke education package that meets the needs of your workforce. This can range from a one-day masterclass or workshop on a specific topic to longer courses which can be delivered online or at a location that is convenient to your employees.

During the contracting process we will work with you to ensure that we understand your required learning outcomes, and the course will be developed to meet these outcomes. We can evaluate improvements in the confidence and knowledge of the staff who attend, and also undertake an assessment of the impact of the training on practice in your care/support setting by completing a more in-depth evaluation.

We have experience working with care home providers, extra care housing providers, home care providers, acute hospitals, GPs, emergency services, libraries, leisure centres and community organisations (amongst others), and welcome enquiries to explore how we can support your organisation: dementia@worc.ac.uk

As well as our bespoke non-accredited education courses, you may want to consider funding your team members to complete the fully online Postgraduate Certificate in Person-Centred Dementia Studies and/or Postgraduate Award in Professional Development: Expert Practice in delivering person-centred dementia care.

We also offer online short courses focusing on specific topics. While these are available to anyone, making them ideal if you have individual staff members with a particular interest or responsibility, we can deliver cohorts specifically for your organisation so please get in touch to discuss these opportunities (dementia@worc.ac.uk):

  • Championing Physical Activity for People Affected by Dementia, for people in care and/or leisure settings looking to help people affected by dementia remain active. A flyer is available, and this short video may also be of interest.
  • Namaste Care, a multi-sensory approach to support people with advanced dementia and at end of life. A flyer is available with more information.
  • Meeting Centres training, a free course for people looking to set up a Meeting Centre in their local community.
