Celebrating 80 years
In 2026, the University of Worcester celebrates 80 years of transforming lives through education.
From our beginnings as a post-war teacher training college in 1946, we have grown into a university with a national reputation for inclusion, opportunity and outstanding graduate outcomes. Across eight decades, generations of students, staff, alumni and partners have helped shape the institution we are today.
Throughout our 80th anniversary year, we will celebrate our people, our achievements and our impact on Worcester, the region and wider society.
Explore our history, share your memories and join us as we celebrate this important milestone.
Eight decades of impact
St John's Campus Main Reception in the 1960s
For 80 years, our purpose has remained remarkably consistent: creating opportunity through education.
What started with a few hundred students preparing to rebuild Britain after the Second World War has become a thriving university educating thousands of students each year and preparing graduates for successful careers in teaching, healthcare, business, science, the arts and many other professions.
Our campuses, research, partnerships and graduates continue to make a positive difference in communities locally, nationally and internationally.
Voices of Worcester
Every member of our community has a story to tell.
Our Oral History Project is capturing memories and experiences from former students, staff and partners to create a living record of the University's journey across eight decades.
Anniversary events
Throughout this next academic year we will be hosting a programme of events, exhibitions, talks and celebrations bringing together students, staff, alumni and friends of the University.
From historical exhibitions and community events to alumni reunions and lectures, there will be many opportunities to celebrate 80 years of Worcester.
