Rebecca Adams is hoping to go on to study for a Masters' degree after graduating in
Sociology at the University of Worcester.
She is currently working part time while taking a PgCert in Tutoring & Coaching at the University.
“During my time at Worcester, I have developed a particular interest in digital culture and society, and I intend to take this interest further by also taking a Masters in the near future, in order to broaden my understanding of the topic,” she said.
Rebecca achieved First Class Honours in her undergraduate degree. “I am incredibly happy to have receive a First Class Honours in Sociology, particularly after such a tumultuous second and final year, due to the pandemic,” she said. “I had never studied Sociology before taking it at degree level, initially taking it combined with another subject in my first year. However I quickly realised it was something that I was incredibly interested in. I feel that the subject is incredibly necessary and has provided me with a deeper understanding of the structures which underpin everyday life, as well as a greater awareness of the world in general.”
Rebecca said, as a commuting student, she was worried she wouldn’t feel as involved in university life. But the experience soon changed her mind.
“As I lived at home during my time attending, I didn’t feel like I would get the opportunity to make friends or feel involved in the community in the same way that I may have if I lived on campus,” she said. “I am happy to say that I was proved entirely wrong. Whether through societies, socials or just classes, there was always a feeling of being part of something, and I have left university with not only the degree I came for, but some lifelong friends that have helped me more than I can express in words. I would recommend attending university to anyone – and not only to get a degree.”
