Social contracts research impact
Using research to support better educational practice
Our research explores the social contracts, both for teachers and pupils, that shape education. Social contracts in schools are framed by the explicit expectations in place. For example, these might be staff handbooks, mission statements, lists of responsibilities and policies.
However, for schools to function well, the implicit expectations, responsibilities and relationships between pupils, teachers, schools, families and wider society need to operate smoothly also.
This impact page brings together findings from our research and translates them into practical ideas and resources for schools and education professionals.
Our aim is to help schools use research evidence to reflect on practice, strengthen relationships and decision-making, and create educational environments that work better for everyone.

Resources for schools and education professionals
As researchers and former schoolteachers, we understand the importance of making sure our research does not get lost in academic journals but has an impact in schools and educational establishments.
As such, we have developed some resources to help schools and education professionals explore the implications of this research within their own settings.
If you would like to speak to us about the professional development opportunities we can offer for your school or trust, please contact Dr Ben Looker, ben.looker2@worc.ac.uk
