Stourbridge Writer Celebrates Double Success at Graduation
A Stourbridge graduate says winning a prestigious poetry prize and securing publication of her work is a dream come true as she prepares for the next stage of her writing career.
Sasha Walker has completed her Creative Writing and English Literature degree at the University of Worcester and has also won the V Press Prize for Poetry.
“I received the prize for my poetry collection about the Bronté sisters, which was submitted as part of my degree, and it will be published next year,” said Sasha. “To achieve publication in addition to earning my degree is a dream come true. I’d like to thank all of my teachers in Creative Writing and English Literature for making my university journey over the last three years such a wonderful experience.”
Sasha, 21, from Stourbridge, already plans to pursue a Master’s in Creative Writing. She said: “My time at Worcester has given me the skills to work independently and hone my writing skills, so I can confidently approach my future career.”
She added: “My friends and family were absolutely delighted with my achievements and wished me every success for the future.”
Sasha is graduating from the institution that has been named Daily Mail University of the Year for Graduate Jobs 2027 and is the UK’s leading multi-subject university for sustained graduate employment, further study or both one year after graduation. She received her award and degree during a week of graduation ceremonies held at Worcester Cathedral from September 8-10.
Professor Sally Moyle, Deputy Vice Chancellor of the University of Worcester said: “We’re incredibly proud of all of our graduates, especially those who have been recognised with awards for going above and beyond during their studies.”
