A South Yorkshire graduate says receiving a prestigious award from the University of Worcester has recognised years of perseverance as she works to inspire the next generation of Early Years professionals.

Sara Stewart has just finished her Integrated Working with Children and Families degree at the University of Worcester and won the Provost Award for Outstanding Student.

She was chosen personally by the University’s Provost, Ann Jordan, who previously served as the Head of the Institute of Education, for her excellent achievements during her studies.

“I have faced significant personal and professional challenges alongside my course,” said Sara. “Despite this, I remained determined to continue progressing, giving my best to my studies and refusing to allow the challenges to prevent me from achieving my goals.”

She said: “Receiving this award means a lot to me. It feels like recognition for all of the hard work, perseverance and effort I’ve put into my course. I want to use my experiences to encourage other Early Years professionals.”

Sara, 42, from Mexborough, said: “My time at Worcester has helped me grow in confidence, personally and professionally. I feel much more confident in voicing my opinions and sharing my ideas with other professionals, even when we may have different views.”

She said her friends and family were delighted to learn of her award: “They were so proud of me when they found out I had won. Having their support throughout my journey has meant so much to me, so being able to share this achievement with them made it even more special.”

Sara is graduating from the institution that has been named Daily Mail University of the Year for Graduate Jobs 2027, and is the UK’s leading multi-subject university for sustained graduate employment, further study or both one year after graduation. She received her award and degree during a week of graduation ceremonies held at Worcester Cathedral from September 8-10.
