Prestigious Biology Award Gives Graduate Confidence for Future Career
A biology graduate says receiving a prestigious award has given her extra confidence as she prepares to take the first steps in her scientific career.
Olivia Taylor has completed her Biochemistry degree at the University of Worcester, and has earned the Royal Society of Biology Top Student Award for her achievements during her studies.
“It means a lot to me to have my hard work throughout my degree recognised in this way,” said Olivia. “There were definitely challenging moments during university, so receiving this award feels like a really rewarding way to finish my time at Worcester.”
Olivia said the award will help as she looks for the perfect role to start her career: “I think it will give me a lot more confidence going forward. It’s really nice to have my hard work recognised, and having an award from the Royal Society of Biology is something I can take with me when applying for future jobs and opportunities.”
Olivia has graduated from the institution that has been named Daily Mail University of the Year for Graduate Jobs 2027, and is the UK’s leading multi-subject university for sustained graduate employment, further study or both one year after graduation. She received her award and degree during a week of graduation ceremonies held at Worcester Cathedral from September 8-10.
“My time at Worcester has given me a lot of practical experience and helped me become much more independent,” she added. “I’ve learned how to manage my own work, solve problems and adapt when things don’t go to plan. I think all of that will be really useful in my future career.”
Olivia said she was particularly excited to share the news of her award with her friends and family: “They were all really proud of me! My family and friends know how much work I’ve put into my degree, so it was really nice to be able to share the news with them.”
Professor Sally Moyle, Deputy Vice Chancellor of the University of Worcester said: “We’re incredibly proud of all of our graduates, especially those who have been recognised with awards for going above and beyond during their studies.”
