A Shropshire graduate says a prestigious award has inspired her to keep challenging herself and making a meaningful contribution as she prepares for the next stage of her career.

Holly Aston has completed her degree in Adapted Physical Education at the University of Worcester and has won the Keith Stokes-Smith Award for Outstanding Student Contribution within the School of Sport and Exercise Science.

“To me, this award represents progress rather than a destination,” said 21-year-old Holly, from Shropshire. “It acknowledges the hard work I’ve put in, but more importantly, it inspires me to continue learning, challenging myself, and making meaningful contributions wherever I can.”

Holly is graduating from the institution that has been named Daily Mail University of the Year for Graduate Jobs 2027, and is the UK’s leading multi-subject university for sustained graduate employment, further study or both one year after graduation. She received her award and degree during a week of graduation ceremonies held at Worcester Cathedral from September 8-10.

Holly said: “This award will strengthen my academic and professional profile while opening doors to future opportunities. More importantly, it motivates me to continue growing, learning and using my knowledge to contribute meaningfully to my profession and the wider community.”

Holly said her family’s reaction to her win was particularly special to her: “They were extremely proud and happy for me. Knowing that the people closest to me recognised how much this achievement meant made receiving the award even more special.”

Professor Sally Moyle, Deputy Vice Chancellor of the University of Worcester said: “We’re incredibly proud of all of our graduates, especially those who have been recognised with awards for going above and beyond during their studies.”
