Award-Winning Artist Hopes to Inspire the Next Generation
An illustration graduate says a prestigious award and mentoring opportunity have given him confidence as he prepares to begin his career in the creative industries.
George Chinn has won the Fancy Features Prize for Visual Communication alongside his degree in Illustration at the University of Worcester for excellent achievement during his degree.
“The award has given me the valuable opportunity to receive mentoring and advice from Fancy Features artist Maria Leyden,” said George, 21, from Andover. “My time at Worcester has helped me develop and improve my artistic approach, giving me a confidence towards my work that I can direct into my future development as an artist and illustrator.”
As he looks to the future, George said he had been inspired to seek a role where he can support others.
He said: “I am hoping for a role that would allow me to help other people with their confidence in their artistic practice. I learnt a lot and benefitted greatly from the support offered by the Art House technicians during my time at Worcester and I would love the chance to provide that kind of help to art students in the future.”
George is graduating from the institution that has been named the Daily Mail University of the Year for Graduate Jobs 2027 and is the UK’s leading multi-subject university for sustained graduate employment, further study or both one year after graduation. He received his award and degree during a week of graduation ceremonies held at Worcester Cathedral from September 8-10.
