Hannah Chance
Former Baxter College Student Wins Prestigious Award Selected by Peaky Blinders Creator.
A former Baxter College student has won an award for Best Screenplay, personally selected by the creator of Peaky Blinders.
Hannah Chance, 21, from Kidderminster, received the Steven Knight Award for Best Screenplay as well as earning her degree in Creative Writing & Screen Writing at the University of Worcester.
Hannah credited her former college with helping her develop the confidence to pursue higher education.
“I am really grateful for Baxter College,” she said. “Without their support I wouldn’t have had the confidence and the push to pursue a creative degree.”
Oscar-nominated Screenwriter Steven Knight, who created BBC hit Peaky Blinders, The Detectives, SAS: Rogue Heroes and many more selected Hannah’s work and gave her individual feedback.
Speaking about her success, Hannah said: “I still honestly cannot believe it. It means a lot as a writer, especially during this era with the rise of AI. I’m very proud of myself and still shocked that I won.”
“Over two semesters, I planned, wrote, edited and rewrote my script until it was time for submission. It was a long but enjoyable process, and I ended up with a script that I was really proud of.”
Hannah now plans to continue her studies with a Master’s degree before pursing a career in writing.
Reflecting on her University experience, she said: “The time I have spent at Worcester has been some of the best three years of my life,” she said. “My confidence as a person and as a writer has improved, and if it wasn’t for the university, I wouldn’t have developed so many important skills and found the confidence to share my writing and pursue a career as a writer.”
Hannah has graduated from the institution that has been named Daily Mail University of the Year for Graduate Jobs 2027, and is the UK’s leading multi-subject university for sustained graduate employment, further study or both one year after graduation. She received her award alongside her degree in a ceremony at Worcester Cathedral.
Professor Sally Moyle, Deputy Vice Chancellor of the University of Worcester said: “Winning an award like this is a great way for students to demonstrate to future employers the effort and commitment they have invested in their university experience. They can look back with pride on their outstanding achievements.”
