Kirsty qualified as a nurse from the Worcestershire and Hereford School of Nursing & Midwifery in 1991. She has enjoyed a long NHS career in a variety of roles, before moving into education as a Senior Lecturer in Adult Nursing at Birmingham City University. She joined the University of Worcester in March 2019. Working at the University of Worcester has given Kirsty further opportunities to develop her professional practice, focusing on innovative, inclusive and creative teaching approaches.

Teaching

Inclusion by Design / Universal Design for Learning, Neurodiversity and Sensorily Safe Environments, Clinical Skills and Simulation, Using technology (VR /AR) for teaching and learning.

Kirsty mainly teaches across the pre-registration BSc Nursing programme, in particular, leading and teaching bespoke run BSc modules for the Nurse Degree Apprenticeship programme as required.

Kirsty also regularly teaches skills and simulation across the BSc and FDNA programmes.

Kirsty is on the organising and scientific committee for the Power of Potential International Conference taking place in Worcester 25th–28th June 2024.

Research

Experiencing Sensory Overload Project – (ESOP)

A simulation-based research project to enhance the quality of education on neurodiversity, and sensory overload in collaboration with Susan Poultney.

Innovate UK Research Project: What are student-nurse’s experiences of participating in a virtual simulation activity designed to facilitate medicines management and enhance pharmacology theoretical knowledge? In collaboration with University of Manchester.
