Dr Shirley Evans is Director of the Association for Dementia at the University of Worcester. She has been involved in a range of evaluation approaches in her research and project management roles in technology and in education.

In her work with older people and students with disabilities she has used a range of methods including interviews, observations/ethnographic observations, walk/talk along interviews and observation (where the participant describes what they are doing and how they are approach it), photo elicitation and the use of visuals. Additional work has incorporated an action research/reflective practice, for example, in the use of online learning and online group work.

In her dementia related work Shirley has led and developed, implemented and sustained a range of community-based initiatives. She has been involved in formative, process, and summative evaluation expertise in a range of international projects. She has conducted rapid literature reviews for projects and for external clients. She has led a range of projects incorporating a realist review and/or evaluation approach relating to community-based initiatives and online support.

Shirley has expertise in co-production and plays a leading role with patient and public involvement collaborating extensively with people with lived experience and people from diverse communities with involvement at all stages of projects.

Evaluation of community-based initiatives have involved theory of change, social return on investment and soft systems approaches as well as formative, process, and summative evaluation approaches in international and lottery related projects.
