University’s Support for Researchers Recognised

HR Excellence in Research Award logo

The University achieved the 'HR Excellence in Research' award in 2016 and, following a recent external review, the accolade was retained. The award is given to an organisation which has a robust and public implementation strategy for supporting the career development and management of its researchers.

Dr John-Paul Wilson, Deputy Pro Vice Chancellor Research at the University, said: "We are delighted to have retained our HR Excellence in Research award, recognising the support which we offer our researchers and the work we are doing to develop this further. This award underlines our commitment to creating and maintaining an excellent research environment in which our researchers can flourish.

"We have made very significant progress in driving forward our research reflected in the outcomes of the recent Research Excellence Framework 2021, which show that we have improved both the scale and quality of our research, with over 50% of outputs identified as world leading or internationally excellent.”

The UK process for the award recognises the institution's commitment to the principles of the Concordat to Support the Career Development of Researchers which aligns with the European Charter for Researchers and Code of Conduct for Recruitment of Researchers and involves ongoing national evaluation and benchmarking.
