The Applied Health and Social Care Top Up Degree provided me with a strong academic foundation and supported my learning in key areas such as mental health conditions, domestic abuse, and substance misuse. It enhanced my understanding of the complex factors that can impact an individual’s functioning and wellbeing. The course also strengthened my ability to apply theory to practice, develop clinical reasoning, and engage in evidence-based practice, which has helped prepare me for the demands of the OT qualification.

I chose to progress my career in occupational therapy as I am passionate about supporting individuals to regain independence and engage in meaningful activities following illness or injury. Through my previous experience, I developed a strong appreciation for the holistic and person-centred approach of OT, which aligns closely with my values of promoting dignity, autonomy, and overall wellbeing.

My ideal role would be within a supportive and multidisciplinary environment where I can continue to develop my clinical skills, particularly within mental health/community settings. I am keen to work in a role that allows me to build therapeutic relationships, support recovery, and promote independence through meaningful occupation.
