Dementia education and development
The Association for Dementia Studies, led by Professor Dawn Brooker, provides a broad spectrum of development and education opportunities, ranging from accredited online distance modules to 6 day courses at a venue of your choice, plus seminars and workshops here within the University.
We are a multidisciplinary team that can provide teaching to a number of professional groups. We are currently providing education to care home staff, domiciliary workers, General Practitioners, hospital staff as well as many other health and social care professionals. Person centred care is at the heart of all of our education, which aims to equip attendees with the necessary knowledge and skills and empower them to use their personal leadership to affect changes to how they live and work.
We work from a position of evidence-based practice. We bring to all our workshops and courses the latest and most up-to date evidence from research and best practice. We work from an international perspective, drawing on an international evidence base.
We offer education, training and development for individuals, organisations and teams, as follows:

June Hennell MBE
"As an expert by experience and carer, I run a dementia support group and in 2016 was awarded an MBE by HM The Queen for my work within the dementia world. I have been involved with ADS for ten years during which I have witnessed a progressive attitude and approach to quality dementia learning and seen great results. Participants can be confident that the content of the modules is based not only on direct involvement of people with dementia and their family carers but taking into account world-wide learning and research" - June Hennell, family carer
" As a student studying on the course has challenged my perceptions and enabled me to reflect on my experiences and skills. My learning has been especially valuable in providing opportunities to consider how it can be applied in my practice to influence positive change.”
