University of Worcester Lecturer Joins Committee of Distinguished Scientific Advisors

Dr Allain Bueno, Senior Lecturer in Human Biology and Human Nutrition, underwent a rigorous selection process to become a Scientific Advisor of the Food Standards Agency.

The Food Standards Agency (FSA) is a Government department which provides professional advice to Parliament. The FSA’s Scientific Advisory Committees advise on the development of policy issues that have major implications for public health and ensure that policy decisions are based on the most up-to-date science and evidence. 

The FSA has appointed 35 new independent advisors from the UK, Ireland, France and Switzerland. The recruitment exercise was carried out through open competition.

Dr Bueno, whose teaching has a particular focus on neurophysiology, neuroendocrine physiology and respective diseases, said: “I am delighted to be appointed as a Scientific Advisor of the FSA, joining the Committee on Toxicity, Joint Expert Group on Additives, Enzymes and other Regulated Products.

“This appointment will have a very positive impact on my teaching at the University. Up-to-date, informed knowledge helps our graduates to gain the latest scientific and professional skills required to succeed in the competitive job market.”
