Lynn Casey-Baker earned a Master’s degree in Counselling while her two children, twins Annie-May Lawrence and Domonic Casey, achieved an HND in Sports Coaching and PE, and an HND in Business Management respectively.

The family, from Catshill, were among more than 3,800 students who graduated from the University this year and collected their certificates during ceremonies held at Worcester Cathedral.

Annie-May said: “It’s nice to graduate with my family and see their achievements. It’s nice as a family to be all together.”

Domonic added: “I feel immensely proud of both my mum and Annie-May because I’ve seen their hard work the last few years.”

Lynn said they had not planned to attend the same university and had all looked around other universities before choosing to study at Worcester. “I chose to study for my Master’s degree at Worcester as the course ticked all the boxes that I was looking for and I liked what I had already seen of the University from visiting with Domonic and Annie-May,” she added. While Lynn, 51, commuted in from Bromsgrove, her 20-year-old twins took up homes with their friends in Worcester.

Lynn said there was no competitiveness with grades. “We’ve all helped each other and have supported each other through difficult times and doing assignments,” she said. Domonic said it was reassuring to see his sister when he was on nights out in Worcester. Domonic and Annie-May would also occasionally bump into each other in the university study areas late at night when assignment deadlines were approaching.

Lynn said: “The benefits of the whole family studying at the same time is that we really understood what each other was going through when deadlines approached and how the focus must be centred on getting the work completed on time. It’s very nice to be able to see both my son and daughter, being as they’re twins, to graduate on the same day, so I’m a very proud mum.”

The twins, former North Bromsgrove High School pupils, are both going on to further study at Worcester. Annie-May is working towards a degree in Physical Education and Sports Studies, with a view to being a secondary school PE teacher. Domonic is doing a Business Management top-up year to achieve his full degree and applying for business management graduate schemes. Lynn plans to continue to work in her private counselling practice based in Bromsgrove.
