Overview

The Assistant Practitioner Apprenticeship is designed for employers who want to grow their workforce and for individuals ready to take the next step in their health and social care career.

As an apprentice, you’ll be employed in a health or care setting for a minimum of 30 hours per week and supported by your employer to undertake the apprenticeship. You’ll earn as you learn, with your course fees paid by your employer, allowing you to develop professionally without taking time out of work.

The course combines university-based learning with work-based development, so new knowledge, skills and behaviours can be applied directly in practice. Teaching focuses on person-centred, evidence-based care, strong professional values and effective teamwork, helping apprentices build confidence and capability within multidisciplinary settings.

For employers, the apprenticeship offers a structured, flexible way to develop skilled Assistant Practitioners who can meet service needs, enhance quality of care and contribute more confidently to their teams. At the University of Worcester, we work with you to tailor the training programme so it supports both individual development and organisational priorities.

Apprentices follow a defined pathway that aligns with their job role and the needs of their employer:
