A total of 343 students secured the top classification in their degrees and will graduate during a week of celebrations at Worcester Cathedral in November.

Among them is Jess Green, who earned her First Class BSc (Hons) degree in Human Nutrition. "I'm proud of my degree for so much more than the classification itself," said the 22-year-old.

"In 2007, I was diagnosed with Leukaemia and back then, it didn't look like I'd be able to finish my secondary education, never mind going to uni. I'm so proud that I pushed through and earned my degree; the fact that it's a First is a bonus. I'd also like to think that my mom would be proud of what I've achieved so far. She passed away in 2003 and so was only able to help me grow for a short part of my life. I hope she would be happy with my achievements so far."

James Wildsmith earned his First Class BSc (Hons) in Sports Coaching Science.

"I am extremely proud to have achieved a First Class Honours for my studies at such a fantastic university for sport," said the 24-year-old.

"The University of Worcester is forward thinking, inclusive, and provides many support networks to help students throughout their university journeys."

James has secured a'job as a Community Coach with the Aston Villa Foundation.

Lyndsey Bowden earned her First Class BA (Hons) in Primary Initial Teacher Education and has secured a job at Hagley Primary School.

"I feel extremely proud and shocked to have achieved a First Class degree," said the 31-year-old. "As a mature student, I have had to work five nights-a-week whilst studying this full time degree, so it was very challenging at times, especially having so little time for family and friends, let alone time to study and write assignments.

"I'm so glad my hard work paid off in the end. It was all worth it knowing I have achieved so highly."

Lyndsey was working as a sales executive in the steel industry before deciding to re-train.

Mature student Kevin Brooke earned his First Class BA (Hons) in Creative & Professional Writing and English Literature.

He was working as a Sales Manager before attending a University of Worcester Open Day in the search for a new challenge.

"I was already writing in my spare time and wanted to take the next step," he said. "Although I was keen to strive for the best grade I could attain, the First Class Honours classification seems a little unreal."

Kevin is now hoping to become a successful children's author with three novels under his belt.

The University of Worcester has places available for well-qualified applicants through Clearing this year.

The Clearing hotline " 01905 855111 " is now open for those collecting BTEC results and Access qualifications and will remain open as A-level results are released on Thursday, August 16th.
