Andy Wedgbury is a social media expert with a particular interest in the intersection between recreational activities and online interaction. After graduating with a Master’s degree in social media, he spent time with the Angling Trust (the national governing body for angling) before moving on to dedicate his time to researching the role that social media plays in the lives of recreationalists, particularly anglers.
Andrew also has a passion for digital content creation, from the written word to Kawaii cartooning and much of his work is influenced by 90s and 00s pop-punk culture.

Research
I am interested in the intersection between recreational activities and social media and am currently completing my PhD with the University of Worcester under the supervision of Prof. Győző Molnár (School of Sports & Exercise Science at the University of Worcester), Dr Geoff Kohe (University of Kent) and Dr Dave Harte (Birmingham City University), which focuses on the ways that recreational participants interact with their activity through online engagement on platforms like Facebook. Particularly, I am interested in the ways that social media influences physical activity participation and vice versa in a sociological context.
