The University of Worcester provides an in-house Specialist Academic Support Service including One to One for SpLD and Autistic students. We also provide DSA funded Mental Health Mentoring.

The University of Worcester is keen to ensure that all students receive consistent support services whether their Non- Medical Help (NMH) support is delivered by the University’s in-house team or through external providers. To facilitate this we wish to establish clear arrangements with all external NMH providers recommended as part of students’ Disabled Students Allowance (DSA).

Delivery of support

Due to security concerns and limitations in availability of rooms on site, where rooms are required for NMH support, we would normally expect NMH providers to deliver the support from their own appropriate offices or rooms nearby the University and convenient to the student. If this is not possible and students prefer support on campus, external NMH staff will be regarded as visitors to the campus and as such, are not entitled to the same permits, rights and access to facilities as workers employed or directly engaged by the University. For example, we cannot provide:
? Staff identification cards
? Access to rooms (other than where booked)
? Access to our WIFI
? Log in credentials for our IT facilities
? Parking facilities
In addition, access to campus and facilities will not be granted if the NMH staff member is not accompanied by the student they support (unless a separate prior arrangement has been made with DDS).

Appropriate location for delivering the support:

As per the DSA-QAF standard 2.4, we would expect any support required to be provided on a one-to-one basis to be delivered in a comfortable and confidential location, taking into account the student’s disability. If support is to be delivered on Campus, we do not therefore consider cafes, food outlets or busy public areas to be suitable locations and support should not be delivered in such places on our premises. We will therefore only allow access to our library (the Hive) and study centres, where quieter areas can be found. When these areas are being used, we would expect the NMH staff member to show due consideration to other users of these spaces.

Renting rooms

Due to limited resources, we will not book rooms or offices on behalf of an external provider. If a student needs to be seen in a private room, the provider has the possibility of renting one here. Normal charges will apply and the provider will be expected to meet those out of their own budget.
