Human Tissue Act

Human Tissue Act

The Human Tissue Act 2004 regulates storage and use of human organs and tissue from the living, and the removal, storage and use of tissue and organs from the deceased for a number of purposes including research.

Researcher's who wish to use human tissue, which includes, for example, blood and urine, should be aware of the Act and its implications for their research.

The Human Tissue Authority which licenses organisations that store and use human tissue for purposes such as research provides guidance for researchers.

Further guidance will appear here shortly.
