Working Hours

Working Hours

The Working Time Regulations describe the maximum number of hours in a week that people can be required to work. University of Worcester complies with these regulations, and encourages employees to take rest breaks and leave as stated in the regulations. In general, lunch breaks are taken as unpaid time; short breaks mid morning and mid afternoon are discretionary and unlikely to extend beyond 10 minutes.

Staff have a right to a minimum unpaid rest break of 20 minutes during any day or shift that exceeds six hours, this is not to be taken as 2x10 minute breaks and cannot offset their break to the beginning or end of their shift.

The standard lunch break at the University is an unpaid 30 minute break. The specific arrangements and timing will depend on departmental requirements. Please speak to your manager in the first instance if you have any queries.
