A University of Worcester student has been awarded a £750 scholarship to pursue her dream of representing England at a Rugby World Cup.

First year Primary Initial Teacher Education student Lark Davies, who live in Little Hereford, near Ludlow, currently plays for the national under 20 side, having progressed through the ranks since taking up the sport at the age of eight.

Now, she is hoping that the funding from the University’s Scholarship Panel - which aims to benefit students who undertake extra-curricular activities in areas such as sport, music and the arts – will help her to fulfil her international ambitions.

She says: “I am very thankful to the University of Worcester for their support and for this Scholarship award, and I hope it will help me to achieve my rugby goals.

“In the long term, I would love to be selected for the England Elite Playing Squad (EPS) and eventually to play in a World Cup.”

After starting out at Luctonians Rugby Club, in Leominster, Lark joined Worcester as an under 18 and was identified as part of a Rugby Football Union (RFU) Under 18 Talent Development Group.

She also played for and captained the Midlands Under 18 team, and went on to make her England Under 20 debut against Canada in July 2013.

The University’s Scholarship Panel consider each applicant, with the next deadline for submission on December 1st 2014.
