Mark has been Chief Fire Officer of Hereford and Worcester Fire and Rescue Service since 2010 having held positions for the previous 25 years in Hertfordshire and Cornwall Fire and Rescue Services. Mark is responsible for ensuring the delivery of fire-fighting, rescue and fire education services as well as fire protection to the built environment throughout these two counties of West Mercia.


Mark has a very wide experience of all aspects of the fire and rescue service and is noted for being the incident commander for the Buncefield explosion in Hemel Hempstead in December 2005, thought to be the largest peacetime fire and explosion in Europe since the second world war. He holds a number of national positions including being the Chief Fire Officers’ Association’s Lead Officer for Health and Safety. Mark is a Member of the Institution of Fire Engineers and was awarded the Queen’s Fire Service Medal (QFSM) in the 2010 Queen’s Birthday Honours List.
