Members of the University of Worcester’s Security team will be tackling the highest mountains in England, Scotland and Wales this summer, in order to raise money for the University’s charity of the year.

Fifteen members of staff will attempt the Three Peaks Challenge – climbing to the summit of Scotland’s Ben Nevis, England’s highest peak; Scafell Pike, and Mount Snowdon, in Wales, all in the space of 24 hours – in August.

Supported by the University, the group are hoping to raise a significant amount of money for St Richard’s Hospice, which will benefit from all funds raised by University charity events this year.

Tom Taylor, Head of Security, explains: “As a team, we have been committed to raising money for the University’s various charities for a number of years, but St Richard’s Hospice is particularly close to our hearts.

“Some of our team have had direct experience of St Richard’s and have seen at close hand the valuable work they do, so we are determined to raise as much money as possible and give the challenge our best shot.

“The challenge will undoubtedly be extremely tough, and it’s likely to test us in many different ways, but we are being generously supported by the University and we hope that our sense of teamwork and mutual support will help pull us through.”

St Richard’s Fundraising Director, Tricia Cavell, adds: “We are thrilled that the team is taking on this tough challenge to raise money for St Richard’s. I’m sure they are set to have a memorable and exhilarating adventure and will be inspired to keep going by the difference their fundraising will make to our patients and families.”

St Richard’s was named charity of the year in August, cementing a close relationship between the organisation and the University.

In November, the partnership launched the Centre for Palliative Care – only the second such project in the country.

St Richard's provides free specialist palliative care for patients living with cancer and other life-threatening illnesses. Each year the hospice team supports over 2,300 patients and family members in Worcestershire.

St Richard’s is an independent charity and is grateful for all donations to support their work.
