The University of Worcester will be the official training base for Team GB Wheelchair Basketball in the run up to the Rio Paralympic Games, it has been announced.

The Great Britain Wheelchair Basketball Association has selected the University as its training base for the 2016 Games, the World Championships and two European Championship events.

This week, the University of Worcester Arena is hosting an international wheelchair basketball tournament featuring Great Britain, Spain, Germany and the Paralympic champions Canada.

The ‘Continental Clash 2’ celebrates the partnership between University of Worcester and Great Britain Wheelchair Basketball; the University is the West Midlands Regional Centre for Wheelchair Basketball.

The Clash begins on Monday, June 10th and culminates in a battle between the reigning Paralympic Champions, Canada and Team GB on the evening of Thursday, June 13.

There has already been a significant demand for tickets for the final game but the University has confirmed that there are still some tickets available.

Head of the University’s Institute of Sport and Exercise Science, Mick Donovan, said: “This provides a great opportunity for the people of our region to show their support for wheelchair basketball and for the GB team who have chosen Worcester as their training base. We can really get behind them for this prestigious event and make it feel like a ‘real home’ venue.”

Details of the games are below. All tickets are free and are available on a first come first served basis.
